AI POssiblity Lab
Overview
The AI Possibility Lab combines Custom GenAI Tools (developed to support creative possibility thinking) with Courses and Workshops that teach students, faculty, and community members how to develop and deploy their own creative GenAI tools to address complex problems and needs they identify.

Schematic of the Build to Learn, Learn to Create approach (R. Beghetto)
The courses and workshops use a creative teaching approach called Build to Learn, Learn to Create. This approach integrates teaching about, for, and with creativity to enable participants (regardless of their prior experiences with AI or coding) to exercise their creative agency by developing custom AI-powered tools and assistants to solve problems they identify.
The approach involves a few key steps, starting with Build to Learn. After exploring examples of custom AI tools, participants identify problems or needs that can be addressed by building their own creative GenAI tools. They pitch their ideas, receive feedback, and then develop initial prototypes using provided templates and tools. This experience deepens their understanding of the AI’s capabilities and limitations. The process then transitions to Learn to Create. Participants refine their prototypes, conduct beta-testing, and learn how to deploy their custom GenAI tools to support others in addressing the problems and needs they have identified within their own professional contexts.
